300 000 € pour la protection de l’environnement en Jordanie
The Agence Française de Développement (AFD) awarded a €300,000 grant to the Government of Jordan in support of environmental performance in Jordan, in the framework of AFD’s ongoing Green Lending Program. The grant agreement was signed in December by the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation (H.E. Dr. Ibrahim Saif), the French Ambassador to Jordan (H.E. Ambassador Caroline Dumas), and the Acting Director of AFD’s representative office in Jordan (Serge Perrin), and will be coordinated by the Ministry of Environment.
This grant will complement AFD’s €40M (approximately USD 53 million) Green Credit Lines extended to Cairo Amman Bank and Capital Bank of Jordan, by allowing for the implementation of a Technical Assistance to the banks in the identification and appraisal of environmental performance projects. It will scale up green investments in Jordan in the fields of pollution abatement and natural resources protection, in line with the Kingdom’s strategy in terms of sustainable environment.
In the framework of its close ties with Jordan, France provided assistance to Jordan’s developmental efforts in several sectors, notably in the water and energy sectors. During 2012-2013, the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) provided Jordan with a soft loan amounting to 150 million euros as direct support to the state’s budget linked to the development of policies benefiting the energy sector in Jordan, in addition to the provision of financial assistance in grants for technical support in the water, energy and small and medium enterprise sectors, totaling 2.6 million euros.
Moreover during 2012-2013, the French Treasury provided Jordan with soft loans to support the Jordan Water Company (Miyahuna) and the Yarmouk Water Company, totaling (82.8 ) million euros.
